A 30-minute ear & hearing health appointment is maybe what you need. If wax is present we will gently and safely remove it with microsuction. A quick hearing test is included if required.

Microsuction is the gold standard for ear wax removal.
It’s quick, painless & safer than other wax removal methods such as irrigation. The technology uses a fine low pressure suction device, just like a gentle vacuum to safely remove the wax & alleviate pain & discomfort.

Many GPs are no longer offering ear wax removal services.
As a result, wait times can be several weeks or even months before patients receive an appointment. This can have a significant impact on your health & well-being.

At South Downs Ear Care, we begin by understanding your ear-health history and with a thorough examination of your ears, to identify whether ear wax build-up may be affecting your hearing.
Our goal is to clean your ears safely and effectively, helping you hear more clearly.
Our clinic was established in January 2023 and in addition we provided a private microsuction service at Action for Deafness (AFD) in Haywards Heath alongside Audiology, until its closure in 2025. We now continue to offer private microsuction at our Burgess Hill clinic and through home visits across Mid Sussex.

A safe & simple ear care experience.
Soften the Wax
Use Earol olive oil spray twice a day, 5 days prior to your appointment. It softens the wax and makes microsuction so much easier.
No Waiting Time
We offer appointments five days a week (Mon - Fri), why wait weeks if we can see you quickly and avoid long wait times. Enquire if you need a same day or evening appointment.
Never use Cotton Buds
It pushes your ear wax deeper into your ear. They can cause trauma to the skin cells, cause itching, can perforate your ear drum & cause serious damage. They are not environmentally friendly either.
Ear Conditions
If any infection or abnormality is detected during your appointment, we seek further advice if necessary and follow up at a later date on the outcome. A visit to your GP may not be needed.
Unsuccessful Wax Removal
If wax removal is unsuccessful during your first appointment due to impacted ear wax, we may suggest a second appointment. Following application of more Earol olive oil spray to further soften the wax we will then repeat the process until the wax has been removed.
